| I have gone from 285 pounds and a tight 40 pant, to 181 pounds and a comfortable 31 pant, in just over 10 months. I was actually 302 pounds when I just simply started watching what I ate. I didn't start exercising until December 1st, 2004. Believe it or not, I also used this same method in 1997 to lose over 133 pounds. Why did I allow myself to put it all back on and then some? I don't know, but I have perfected the process of taking it off, & keeping it off. I won't be go back this time. I finally have complete control, and would like to share my experiences with you, the reader, to hopefully give some others the motivation to take control of there lives too. There are all kinds of quick-fix, weight loss pills out there, but, if you notice the fine print. It always says, "When used with a sensible diet and exercise program". DUH! The pills don't do anything for you in my opinion. But, the sensible diet and exercise program is a different story. Now we're talking. The way I have done it, is a way that I have coined, "The Nix Fix". I simply started eating anything grown from a seed, and if it is man made, I eat low fat or no fat whenever possible. I still eat meat, but only white meat with no skin. Steak & most red meats don't really agree with my system anyway. I think it has something to do with the fact that I can't chew it up enough to help out the digestive process. | White meat such as skinless turkey or chicken breast still have plenty of protein, but much less saturated fat. It all comes down to grams of fat, & calories. - There are 9 calories per gram of fat.
- Calories are energy.
- Fat is stored energy.
If you burn more calories than you take in, you lose weight. That doesn't mean don't eat! You have to eat to lose weight. Food gives you energy. It's what kinds of foods you eat that makes the difference.
When you exercise, your body continues burning calories even while you sleep. The muscles burn calories while rebuilding themselves. The best thing to do is, find an exercise class close to home, because misery likes company, and begin enjoying the changes in your life, that will come. I started lifting weights, but I didn't go overboard. Every other day I did a couple sets for major muscle groups. It made me feel stronger and really accelerated the weight loss. I didn't try to become a body builder, I just wanted to become stronger, & control my body, instead of my body controlling me. 2-3 workouts in, I felt stronger than I had in years. For cardio, I chose aerobics and cycling. Aerobics helped my strength and balance, & Cycling uses the quad muscles which really gets the heart pumping. The longer you keep your heart rate up, the more calories you burn. I enjoy cycling because I can cover several miles in the same amount of time it would take to walk one mile. It also burns more calories than walking. I'm kind of impatient like that, when it comes to getting somewhere and getting the weight off.
It takes time, but, with patience,& perseverance, before you know it, you'll be looking at a new you in the mirror!
